Diamond Masterclass with Lyon & Turnbull

Join us for an evening of diamonds, jewellery, and hands-on learning with gemmologist Ruth Davis FGA, DGA (Lyon & Turnbull).
These sessions tend to fill quickly and are known for being as engaging as they are informative, with plenty of time to handle and try on pieces.
What to expect
Hosted at the ætla Studio (17 St Stephen Street), the evening begins with a drink on arrival.
Ruth will guide you through the 4 Cs, how they affect value, and how to make the most of your budget. This is a clear, practical introduction, not a lecture.
From there, the session becomes fully hands-on. You will learn how to use a jeweller’s loupe (yours to take home), handle and assess real diamonds and jewellery up close, and understand how to spot inclusions, evaluate cut, and read certificates. Along the way, Ruth will share practical techniques to help you identify imitation stones and build confidence in what you’re looking at.
By the end of the session, you will have the tools and confidence to assess a diamond yourself.
After the masterclass
We will move across to the ætla boutique for a glass of fizz and a short, relaxed browse, including a first look at new summer residency arrivals and Ellis Mhairi Cameron trunk show pieces.
