Monica Findlay

Monica is a silversmith and jeweller based in Glasgow. Her practice explores our connection to the material world, considering how objects can anchor memories and reveal traces of forgotten histories. Drawing on Scottish archaeology alongside personal narratives, she creates contemporary artefacts that feel both distant and familiar, evoking a sense of nostalgia and connection to the past.

The material presence of the past continues to shape Monica’s work, both conceptually and through her commitment to preserving traditional techniques. Since graduating from The Glasgow School of Art with First Class Honours in 2021, she has undertaken a series of training residencies to develop her practice, including with The Glasgow School of Art and Craft Scotland’s COMPASS programme. Most recently, she completed an apprenticeship with Master Silversmith Rod Kelly in Shetland, further developing her knowledge of traditional silversmithing techniques.
